Leptin receptor (OB-R)는 사이토카인 수용체 초가족에 속하며, 포유류의 체중 항상성과 에너지 균형 유지에 중요한 역할을 합니다. 지방 조직에서 분비되는 호르몬인 leptin에 의해 활성화되면 JAK/STAT 경로를 통해 하위 신호 전달이 유도됩니다. OB-R의 여러 isoform이 존재하며, 이는 길이와 신호 전달 능력에서 차이를 보입니다. OB-R의 long form RNA는 choroid plexus와 hypothalamus에서 발견되며, 포만감과 에너지 소비 조절에 관여합니다. OB-R(db) 또는 leptin(ob) 유전자 변이는 조기 발병 비만과 관련이 있으며, 대사 이상으로는 고코르티솔혈증, 고인슐린혈증, 인슐린 저항성, 고혈당, 중추신경계 활동 변화, 갈색 지방의 대사율 감소, 백색 지방의 증가 등이 보고되었습니다.
