The TRFK4 antibody reacts with mouse interleukin-5 (IL-5), also known as BCDF-alpha and eosinophil differentiation factor (EDF). This 15–20 kDa cytokine is secreted by Th2 cells and exists as a homodimer.

Applications Reported:
TRFK4 has been reported for use in detection of mouse IL-5 by ELISA.

Applications Tested:
The TRFK4 antibody has been tested as the detection antibody in a sandwich ELISA for analysis of mouse IL-5 in combination with the purified TRFK5 (14-7052) antibody for capture and recombinant mouse IL-5 (14-8051) as the standard.
A suitable range of concentrations for ELISA detection is 0.5–2 µg/mL.
A standard curve consisting of doubling dilutions of the recombinant standard over the range of 1000 pg/mL–8 pg/mL should be included in each ELISA plate.

Target Information

IL-5 is a cytokine that acts as a growth and differentiation factor for both B cells and eosinophils. It is a main regulator of eosinopoiesis, eosinophil maturation, and activation. Elevated IL-5 production is associated with asthma and hypereosinophilic syndromes.
The IL-5 receptor is a heterodimer whose beta subunit is shared with receptors for IL-3 and CSF2 (GM-CSF). IL-5, IL-4, IL-13, and CSF2 form a cytokine gene cluster on chromosome 5, regulated by long-range elements over 120 kb on chromosome 5q31.
