Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the natriuretic peptide family. Natriuretic peptides regulate extracellular fluid volume and electrolyte homeostasis. The precursor protein is processed to release peptides with vasoactive and natriuretic-diuretic activity. Mutations in this gene have been linked to familial atrial fibrillation type 6.
