Target Information
N-Acylphosphatidylethanolamine (NAPE)-hydrolyzing phospholipase D (NAPE-PLD) is a membrane-bound enzyme that releases the endocannabinoid anandamide and other bioactive N-acylethanolamines from their corresponding NAPEs in animal tissues.
NAPE-PLD is expressed by specific neuronal populations and localized to axonal processes. NAEs generated by NAPE-PLD may act as anterograde synaptic signaling molecules regulating postsynaptic neuron activity.
Additionally, NAPE-PLD catalyzes the hydrolysis of NAPE to generate OEA (oleoylethanolamide), a lipid amide that inhibits food intake in rodents.
