Target Information
The MEF2D gene is part of the myocyte-specific enhancer factor 2 (MEF2) family of transcription factors. These proteins regulate muscle and neuronal cell differentiation and development and are modulated by class II histone deacetylases. Fusion with DAZAP1 due to chromosomal translocation has been observed in acute lymphoblastic leukemia, suggesting a role in leukemogenesis. MEF2D may also be implicated in Parkinson’s disease and myotonic dystrophy. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
