UPB1은 CN hydrolase 계열에 속하는 단백질로, 피리미딘 분해 경로의 마지막 단계를 촉매하는 베타-유레이도프로피오나제(beta-ureidopropionase)를 암호화합니다.
이 효소는 uracil과 thymine을 각각 beta-alanine과 beta-aminoisobutyric acid로 전환시키는 과정의 마지막 단계에 관여합니다.
UPB1 결핍은 N-carbamyl-beta-amino aciduria와 관련이 있으며, 신경학적 이상을 유발할 수 있습니다.
