Target Information

This gene is a member of the F-box/WD-40 gene family, which recruits specific target proteins through WD-40 protein-protein binding domains for ubiquitin-mediated degradation. In mouse, a similar protein maintains the apical ectodermal ridge of developing limb buds; disruption results in absence of central digits and syndactyly, similar to split hand-split foot malformation in humans. The human condition is genetically heterogeneous, mapped to the same chromosomal region, and may involve complex rearrangements or duplications of this gene and others. A pseudogene has been mapped to one of the introns of the BCR gene on chromosome 22.
