Product Specific Information

MA1-10749 detects Quinidine.
This antibody has been successfully used in ELISA applications.
The immunogen is Quinidine conjugated to KLH.

Target Information

Quinidine is an alkaloid extracted from the bark of the Cinchona tree with class 1A antiarrhythmic and antimalarial effects.
It stabilizes neuronal membranes by binding to and inhibiting voltage-gated sodium channels, reducing sodium influx required for impulse initiation and conduction. This increases the threshold for excitation and decreases depolarization during phase 0 of the action potential.
Additionally, Quinidine increases the effective refractory period (ERP), action potential duration (APD), and ERP/APD ratios, resulting in decreased conduction velocity of nerve impulses.
Its antimalarial activity arises from acting as an intra-erythrocytic schizonticide, associating with the heme polymer (hemazoin) in the acidic food vacuole of the parasite, thereby preventing further polymerization by heme polymerase enzyme. This leads to accumulation of toxic heme and parasite death.
