Product Specific Information
This antibody reacts with an extracellular epitope of CD11a (alpha subunit of human LFA-1), a 170–180 kDa type I transmembrane glycoprotein expressed on B and T lymphocytes, monocytes, macrophages, neutrophils, basophils, and eosinophils.
Target Information
CD11a (LFA-1 alpha, ITGAL) together with CD18 constitute leukocyte function-associated antigen 1 (LFA-1), the αLβ2 integrin.
CD11a is involved in leukocyte adhesion and activation through interactions with ICAM-1, -2, and -3. It plays a critical role in immune cell interaction, differentiation, proliferation, and T-cell effector function.
Blocking CD11a activity is a therapeutic approach for inflammatory diseases. For example:
- Efalizumab (Raptiva): Humanized anti-CD11a antibody used to inhibit T-cell migration.
- Simvastatin: Binds CD11a allosteric site, modulating immune response and lymphocytic cholinergic activity.
Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms of CD11a have been identified.
Diseases associated with CD11a dysfunction include benign cephalic histiocytosis and leukocyte adhesion deficiency.
