Target Information
Autophagy-related protein 16L (ATG16L) is encoded by the ATG16L gene located on chromosome 2 in humans.
Also known as WD30 or IBD10 (Inflammatory Bowel Disease 10).
ATG12 and ATG5 conjugate and oligomerize with ATG16L to form the Atg16L complex (≈800 kDa), facilitating LC3 lipidation to phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) — a key marker for autophagy.
The ATG16L complex, along with other ATGs such as ATG18 and ATG21, prevents premature cleavage of ATG8-PE by cysteine protease Atg4 until autophagosome completion.
