Target Information
HIPPI is required for the formation of cilia and plays an indirect role in sonic hedgehog signaling, as cilia are essential for hedgehog pathway activity. It has pro-apoptotic function via interaction with HIP1, leading to recruitment of caspase-8 (CASP8) and induction of apoptosis. HIPPI can bind the DNA sequence motif 5'-AAAGACATG-3' found in promoters of caspase genes (CASP1, CASP8, CASP10), suggesting potential transcriptional regulatory activity, though its relevance remains unclear.
