Mi는 pigmentation, mast cell, bone development에 관여하는 basic helix-loop-helix-leucine zipper (b-HLH-ZIP) 전사 인자입니다.
Mi의 돌연변이는 인간에서 Waardenburg Syndrome type II를 유발하며, 마우스에서는 피부, 눈, 내이의 색소세포 손실과 골경화증, NK 및 mast cell 결함을 초래합니다.
Mi에는 NH2 말단에서 66개의 아미노산이 다른 두 가지 isoform이 존재합니다. 짧은 형태는 melanocyte에서 발현되어 52 kDa 및 56 kDa 밴드로 나타나며, 긴 형태는 osteoclast 및 B16 melanoma 세포에서 60–70 kDa 밴드로 나타납니다.
