Target Information
Inward rectifier potassium channels allow potassium to flow more readily into the cell than out. Their voltage dependence is regulated by extracellular potassium concentration; as external potassium increases, channel opening shifts to more positive voltages. Inward rectification is mainly due to blockage of outward current by internal magnesium.
KCNJ13 exhibits low single-channel conductance, low sensitivity to block by external barium and cesium, and no dependence of inward rectification on internal magnesium.
