Target Information
Apolipoproteins are protein components of plasma lipoproteins. The apolipoprotein C gene family encodes four homologous proteins (apoC-I to -IV) that modulate the metabolism of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins.
The human apoC-I and apoC-II genes map to chromosome 19q13.2. ApoC-II encodes a 79 amino acid single-chain protein essential as a cofactor for lipoprotein lipase, the enzyme responsible for hydrolyzing plasma triglycerides and transferring fatty acids to tissues.
