Target Information
The MYO5A gene encodes a myosin V heavy-chain protein, part of the myosin superfamily of actin-based motor proteins. Myosin V plays a role in cytoplasmic vesicle transport, spindle-pole alignment, and mRNA translocation. It is abundant in melanocytes and nerve cells. Mutations in MYO5A are associated with Griscelli syndrome type-1 (GS1), Griscelli syndrome type-3 (GS3), and Elejalde disease. Multiple alternatively spliced variants have been reported, although some full-length forms are not yet fully characterized.
