Target Information
C17orf53 (chromosome 17 open reading frame 53) is a 647 amino acid protein encoded by a gene located on human chromosome 17.
Chromosome 17 comprises over 2.5% of the human genome, containing about 81 million bases and more than 1,200 genes.
Notably, two key tumor suppressor genes, p53 and BRCA1, are located on this chromosome.
- p53: Maintains genetic integrity by regulating DNA repair and cell death. Loss or malfunction is linked to malignant growth and Li-Fraumeni syndrome.
- BRCA1: Involved in DNA repair and associated with early-onset breast cancer and susceptibility to ovarian, colon, prostate, and fallopian tube cancers.
- Chromosome 17 is also related to neurofibromatosis, Alexander disease, Birt-Hogg-Dube syndrome, and Canavan disease.
