Target Information
Kininogen 1 gene undergoes alternative splicing to produce two proteins: high molecular weight kininogen (HMWK) and low molecular weight kininogen (LMWK).
- HMWK: Essential for blood coagulation and assembly of the kallikrein-kinin system. Bradykinin, a peptide with physiological effects, is released from HMWK.
- LMWK: Not involved in blood coagulation.
Three transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
