Target Information
Vitamin K epoxide reductase complex subunit 1 (VKORC1) is an enzyme responsible for reducing vitamin K 2,3-epoxide to its active form, essential for blood clotting. The reduced form of vitamin K is required for the carboxylation of glutamic acid residues in certain blood-clotting proteins.
VKORC1 is sensitive to the anticoagulant warfarin. Mutations in VKORC1 are associated with vitamin K–dependent clotting factor deficiencies and warfarin resistance in humans and rats.
