Target Information

The S1 region attaches the virion to the cell membrane by interacting with host ANPEP (aminopeptidase N), initiating infection. Binding to the receptor induces conformational changes in the S glycoprotein, exposing the fusion peptide of the S2 region and activating membrane fusion.
The S2 region belongs to the class I viral fusion proteins and transitions through three conformational states: pre-fusion, pre-hairpin intermediate, and post-fusion hairpin. During membrane fusion, coiled-coil heptad repeats form a trimer-of-hairpins structure, positioning the fusion peptide near the ectodomain C-terminus, driving membrane fusion between virus and host cell.
