PKN1 (PRK1)는 protein kinase C superfamily에 속하며, Rho family의 small G proteins에 의해 활성화됩니다. Rho-dependent signaling pathway를 매개하며, phospholipids에 의해 활성화될 수 있습니다. PDPK1/PDK1이 PKN1을 인산화하여 인슐린 신호를 actin cytoskeleton으로 전달할 수 있습니다. Caspase-3 등의 단백질 분해효소에 의해 활성화되어 apoptosis 관련 신호전달에 관여하며, 다양한 splice variant가 존재합니다.
