Target Information
The APAF1 gene encodes a cytoplasmic protein that initiates apoptosis. This protein includes multiple WD-40 domains, a caspase recruitment domain (CARD), and an ATPase domain (NB-ARC). Upon binding cytochrome c and dATP, it forms an oligomeric apoptosome that activates caspase 9, triggering the caspase cascade leading to apoptosis.
Alternative splicing generates several transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms.
