Target Information
The E2F1 protein is a member of the E2F family of transcription factors, which play a crucial role in regulating the cell cycle and interacting with tumor suppressor proteins. E2F proteins contain conserved domains including a DNA-binding domain, a dimerization domain for interaction with DP proteins, a transactivation domain rich in acidic residues, and a tumor suppressor association domain. E2F1, along with E2F2 and E2F3, has an additional cyclin-binding domain and binds preferentially to retinoblastoma protein (pRB) in a cell cycle–dependent manner. It mediates both cell proliferation and p53-dependent or independent apoptosis.
