Target Information
The VNN2 gene encodes a member of the Vanin family of proteins that share extensive sequence similarity with each other and with biotinidase. Members include secreted and membrane-associated proteins, some of which participate in hematopoietic cell trafficking. Although vanin proteins lack biotinidase activity, they possess pantetheinase activity that may contribute to oxidative-stress response.
VNN2 is a GPI-anchored cell surface molecule involved in transendothelial migration of neutrophils. This gene is located near other vanin genes on chromosome 6q23–q24 and has alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
