Target Information
Bacillus is a genus of rod-shaped, Gram-positive bacteria belonging to the division Firmicutes.
These species are either obligate or facultative aerobes and test positive for the enzyme catalase.
Bacillus includes both free-living and pathogenic species such as B. anthracis (anthrax) and B. cereus (food poisoning).
Under stressful environmental conditions, the bacteria can produce oval endospores that allow them to remain dormant for long periods.
