Target Information
Histones are basic nuclear proteins responsible for the nucleosome structure of chromosomal fibers in eukaryotes. Two molecules each of H2A, H2B, H3, and H4 form an octamer, around which approximately 146 bp of DNA is wrapped to form nucleosomes. The linker histone H1 binds linker DNA between nucleosomes and aids in chromatin compaction.
This gene encodes a member of the histone H4 family, is intronless, and located on chromosome 6. Transcripts lack polyA tails but contain a palindromic termination element.
