Target Information
The asialoglycoprotein receptor (ASGPR) is a 42 kDa transmembrane glycoprotein that mediates binding, internalization, and degradation of extracellular glycoproteins with exposed terminal galactose residues. It is expressed on hepatocyte surfaces, predominantly on the sinusoidal and lateral plasma membranes, but not on the bile canalicular membrane. ASGPR facilitates endocytosis and degradation of serum proteins lacking terminal sialic residues.
The rat ASGPR comprises three subunits: rat hepatic lectin (RHL)-1, RHL-2, and RHL-3. The monoclonal antibody 8D7 recognizes a subunit-specific epitope of RHL-1 and cross-reacts with human ASGPR.
