Target Information
Muscle myosin is a hexameric protein composed of two heavy chains, two alkali light chains, and two regulatory light chains.
The MYH7 gene encodes the beta (slow) heavy chain subunit of cardiac myosin, predominantly expressed in the human ventricle and in slow-twitch skeletal muscle fibers.
Alterations in MYH7 expression are associated with cardiac contractile velocity changes, thyroid hormone depletion, and hemodynamic overload.
Mutations in this gene are linked to familial hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, myosin storage myopathy, dilated cardiomyopathy, and Laing early-onset distal myopathy.
