Target Information
Transducin is a three-subunit guanine nucleotide-binding protein (G protein) that mediates the coupling of rhodopsin and cGMP-phosphodiesterase during visual signal transduction. The alpha subunits in rods and cones are encoded by separate genes. This gene encodes the alpha subunit in rods and is also expressed in other cell types, including those involved in bitter taste transduction in rats. Mutations in this gene are associated with autosomal dominant congenital stationary night blindness. Multiple alternatively spliced variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
