COL4A6 유전자는 대부분의 결합 조직에서 발견되는 Type I collagen과 관련이 있습니다. 이 유전자의 돌연변이는 골형성부전증, Ehlers-Danlos 증후군 및 특발성 골다공증과 관련이 있습니다. 또한 17번과 22번 염색체 사이의 상호 전좌는 피부 종양인 dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans와 연관되어 있으며, 이는 성장 인자의 비정상적 발현을 유발합니다. 이 유전자는 대체 polyadenylation 신호 사용으로부터 두 가지 전사체를 생성합니다.
