Cellular Localization
Cytoplasm, cytoskeleton, spindle, spindle pole.
Endogenous CKAP2 does not colocalize with microtubules in G1, S, and early G2.
At late G2 and prophase, after separation of duplicated centrosomes, it colocalizes with gamma-tubulin and centrosome-proximal microtubules.
From prometaphase through anaphase B, it colocalizes with mitotic spindle poles and spindle microtubules.
During cytokinesis, it is absent from midbody microtubules.
Background
This gene encodes a cytoskeleton-associated protein that stabilizes microtubules and plays a role in regulating cell division.
The encoded protein is regulated through phosphorylation at multiple serine and threonine residues.
A pseudogene of this gene exists on chromosome 14.
Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
