Target Information
Adipose tissue serves as an energy reserve and is tightly regulated. Adipocytes secrete key proteins such as lipoprotein lipase (LPL), leptin, Acrp30, resistin, and perilipin.
Perilipin is a hormonally regulated intracellular lipid droplet protein localized to lipid droplet surfaces.
Upon lipolytic stimulation, perilipin is phosphorylated by protein kinase A and modulates hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) activity, influencing triacylglycerol hydrolysis.
Perilipin expression is restricted to adipocytes and steroidogenic cells, existing as two isoforms (A and B) derived from a single gene via alternative splicing.
