Target Information
A novel cytokine-like gene family identified using structure-based methods to search for four-helix-bundle cytokines in genomic databases.
This family includes FAM3A, FAM3B, FAM3C, and FAM3D, each encoding a protein of 224–235 amino acids with a hydrophobic leader sequence.
- FAM3B: Highly expressed in pancreas
- FAM3D: Expressed in placenta
- FAM3A and FAM3C: Expressed in almost all tissues
Immunohistochemistry shows FAM3A is prominently expressed in vascular endothelium, particularly capillaries, and also in endocardium of the heart and other tissues.
