Target Information
Cytokeratin 8 is a member of the type II keratin family located on chromosome 12. Type I and II keratins form intermediate filaments in epithelial cells. Cytokeratin 8 typically dimerizes with keratin 18 to form filaments in simple epithelial cells. It contributes to cellular structural integrity, signal transduction, and differentiation. Mutations in the gene can lead to cryptogenic cirrhosis.
