Target Information
Herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2 (HSV-1 and HSV-2), also known as Human herpes virus 1 and 2 (HHV-1 and -2), are members of the Herpesviridae family and are highly contagious to humans.
HSV-1 commonly causes cold sores, while HSV-2 is primarily responsible for genital herpes.
The virion form of herpes viruses consists of a large double-stranded, linear DNA genome enclosed within a capsid and surrounded by a viral envelope.
Different HSV strains contain over 70 open reading frames (ORFs).
HSV has also been associated with Alzheimer’s disease.
