Target Information
Adiponectin is a protein hormone secreted exclusively by adipocytes that regulates lipid and glucose metabolism. It plays a key role in physiological processes such as homeostasis and obesity. Decreased adiponectin levels are linked to obesity, insulin resistance, and type 2 diabetes. In mice, adiponectin enhances insulin signaling and reduces resistance via activation of AMP kinase and PPAR-alpha, promoting fatty acid oxidation and reducing intramyocellular lipid levels.
