Target Information
Alpha Tubulin is a part of a heterodimer consisting of alpha and beta tubulin subunits. Both subunits (~55 kDa) are homologous but not identical. The alpha-beta tubulin heterodimer forms the basic building block of microtubules, which are cylindrical filamentous structures found in nearly all eukaryotic cells. Microtubules provide structural support, serve as intracellular transport pathways, and play a crucial role in mitosis.
Multiple alpha and beta tubulin genes are highly conserved among species. The alpha tubulin gene is similar to the mouse and rat Tuba1 gene, and its expression is predominantly found in morphologically differentiated neurologic cells.
