Target Information
This gene encodes a protein that is part of the NuRD (nucleosome remodeling deacetylase) complex found in the nucleus of human cells. It is broadly expressed and strongly present in many tissues. The gene family is involved in transcriptional regulation, possibly through chromatin remodeling.
MTA2 is closely related to another family member associated with carcinoma metastasis. Both share domains for DNA binding, dimerization, and DNA methylation.
One of the known target proteins is p53, whose deacetylation correlates with loss of growth inhibition in transformed cells, supporting a link between this gene family and metastasis.
