Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a cytokine specifically induced by apoptosis, involved in the regulation of angiogenesis, inflammation, and wound healing. Its release sensitizes tumor-associated vasculature to tumor necrosis factor. The precursor protein is identical to the p43 subunit of the multi-tRNA synthetase complex and modulates aminoacylation activity in normal cells. Proteolytic cleavage in tumor cells stimulates inflammatory responses. Multiple transcript variants and a pseudogene on chromosome 20 have been identified.
