Product Specific Information
The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using an epitope-specific immunogen. Purity is >95% as determined by SDS-PAGE.
Target Information
Pepsin is one of the main proteolytic enzymes secreted by the gastric mucosa. It consists of a single polypeptide chain and is derived from its precursor, pepsinogen, by removal of a 41-amino-acid segment from the N-terminus. Pepsinogen is synthesized in the stomach lining, and hydrochloric acid is required for conversion to the active enzyme and for maintaining the optimal acidity (pH 1–3) for pepsin function. Pepsin effectively cleaves peptide bonds involving aromatic amino acids and shows broad specificity, with preference for phenylalanine and leucine residues. The amino acid composition of Pepsin C differs from pepsinogen and pepsin, particularly in basic amino acids, glutamic acid, aspartic acid, leucine, and isoleucine content.
