Target Information

Cell cycle progression requires activation of cyclin-dependent kinases (Cdks). The catalytic subunit Cdk2 is inactive alone and partially activated by regulatory cyclins such as cyclin D1. Full activation requires phosphorylation at Thr160, mediated by the Cdk-activating kinase (CAK) complex, composed of catalytic, regulatory, and auxiliary subunits. The regulatory subunit, cyclin H, is essential for activation of Cdk7. Mat1 (MNAT1) is a protein that associates with the cyclin H–Cdk7 complex throughout the cell cycle, forming an active kinase complex that phosphorylates Cdk activation domains and the C-terminal domain of RNA polymerase II. Mat1 serves as an assembly factor crucial for Cdk–cyclin complex formation.
