Antibody detects endogenous levels of total Nek9.
Target Information
NEK9, a NEK type protein kinase, regulates chromosome alignment and segregation in mitosis. The protein contains:
- N-terminal NIMA-like catalytic domain
- Central domain homologous to RCC1 (guanine nucleotide exchange factor for Ran GTPase)
- C-terminal coiled-coil domain
It is phosphorylated by active p34(Cdc2), capable of autophosphorylation and oligomerization. Activated NEK9 binds Nek6 and RCC1, associates with Bicd2 in vivo, and phosphorylates this coiled-coil protein in vitro. NEK9 expression has been documented in normal human brain and ESTs have been isolated from several tissue libraries (normal bone, lymph, thymus, and cancerous cervix, eye, lymph, placenta).
