Target Information
Histones are basic nuclear proteins responsible for the nucleosome structure of chromosomal fibers in eukaryotes. Two molecules each of H2A, H2B, H3, and H4 form an octamer around which approximately 146 bp of DNA is wrapped, forming nucleosomes. The linker histone H1 interacts with linker DNA between nucleosomes and contributes to chromatin compaction. The protein also exhibits antimicrobial activity. The HIST1H2BC gene encodes a replication-dependent histone H2B variant located in the large histone gene cluster on chromosome 6, lacking a polyA tail and containing a palindromic termination element.
