Target Information
Viperin is a 43 kDa protein that is one of several hundred interferon-inducible viral proteins. Its expression is upregulated by LPS and poly I:C through TLR-dependent signaling pathways. Sendai virus-mediated viperin expression occurs independently of TLR signaling via RLRs, including RIG-I and MAVs (Severa, 2006).
Viperin plays a critical role in interferon-mediated antiviral activity, notably in Hepatitis C virus models (Helbig, 2011). It is expressed in lymphoid and dendritic cells and is highly induced in neutrophils and macrophages during acute LCMV infection in mice.
Viperin serves as both a mediator of viral resistance and a marker for interferon responsiveness, making its detection through specific antibody probes valuable for further research.
