Target Information
CYP1B1 is a 543-amino-acid intracellular protein localized to the endoplasmic reticulum. It belongs to the cytochrome P450 superfamily of enzymes, which are monooxygenases catalyzing reactions involved in drug metabolism and the synthesis of cholesterol, steroids, and other lipids. This enzyme metabolizes procarcinogens such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and 17β-estradiol. It also participates in the metabolism of substances active in eye growth and differentiation, playing a potential role in ocular development. Mutations in CYP1B1 are associated with primary congenital glaucoma.
