Target Information

The Thrombospondin proteins (TSP 1–5) are a family of glycoproteins involved in cell-to-cell and cell-to-matrix signaling. These extracellular, cell-surface proteins form homo- and hetero-multimeric complexes.
Thrombospondins play roles in development, platelet aggregation, cell adhesion and migration, and cell cycle progression.
Thrombospondin 1 is released from platelets upon thrombin stimulation and is a transient component of the extracellular matrix during tissue development and repair.
Thrombospondin 2 shares high homology with Thrombospondin 1 and is thought to have overlapping but distinct functions.
Thrombospondin 3 is a developmentally regulated heparin-binding protein, while Thrombospondin 4 is neuronally expressed and promotes neurite outgrowth.
