Target Information
BUBR1 is a member of the Ser/Thr protein kinase family and a key component of the mitotic checkpoint that delays anaphase until all chromosomes are properly attached to the mitotic spindle. Compromised spindle checkpoints contribute to genetic instability and may predispose cells to malignant transformation.
Human cells contain two related checkpoint kinases, hBUBR1 and hBUB1, both of which monitor mitotic kinetochore–microtubule interactions. hBUBR1 is essential for normal mitotic progression by preventing premature anaphase onset.
BUBR1 has been detected in human cancers and identified as a binding partner of BCSG1, which may accelerate breast cancer progression by inactivating BUBR1.
