Target Information
BUBR1 is a member of the Ser/Thr protein kinase family and a key component of the mitotic checkpoint, delaying anaphase until all chromosomes are properly attached to the mitotic spindle. Defective spindle checkpoints contribute to genetic instability and may lead to malignant transformation.
Human cells express two related checkpoint kinases, hBUBR1 and hBUB1, both monitoring kinetochore-microtubule interactions. hBUBR1 is essential for normal mitotic progression, preventing premature anaphase entry. BUBR1 has been detected in human cancers and identified as a binding partner of BCSG1, potentially accelerating breast cancer progression through mitotic checkpoint inactivation.
