Target Information
Anaplastic Lymphoma Receptor Tyrosine Kinase (ALK) belongs to the insulin receptor superfamily and is vital for brain development. Mutations, rearrangements, and amplifications in the ALK gene are associated with tumors such as anaplastic large cell lymphoma, neuroblastoma, and non-small cell lung cancer.
Chromosomal rearrangements often create a fusion gene between ALK (chromosome 2) and NPM (chromosome 5), resulting in an oncogenic NPM-ALK fusion protein.
ALK encodes a novel receptor tyrosine kinase with transmembrane and extracellular domains, which are absent in the NPM-ALK fusion product. It shows high sequence similarity to LTK and plays an important role in neuronal development.
