Target Information
Iduronate-2-sulfatase is required for lysosomal degradation of heparan sulfate and dermatan sulfate. Mutations in this X-chromosome gene cause enzymatic deficiency leading to Mucopolysaccharidosis Type II (Hunter Syndrome). The protein shares strong sequence similarity with human arylsulfatases A, B, and C, and glucosamine-6-sulfatase. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described.
