Target Information
Neurogenin-2 is a member of the neurogenin subfamily of basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) transcription factor genes that play an important role in neurogenesis from migratory neural crest cells. In mouse neurogenesis, Ngn2 and Ngn1 are expressed in distinct progenitor populations within the central and peripheral nervous systems. Mutation analyses show that Ngn1 is required for neuronal precursor determination in proximal cranial sensory ganglia, while Ngn2 is necessary for precursors of epibranchial placode-derived sensory neurons.
